Located about 30 miles due West of Philadelphia, Downingtown, originally Milltown, stradles the Brandywine Creek and has easy access to the PA Turnpike, Valley Forge, Lancaster County, Wilmington and other areas of interest. Population growth caused the expansion to a second high school and middle school in recent years. Both Hibernia Park (county) and Marsh Creek State Park are within 15 minutes. Lots of celebrations and events to enjoy - Downingtown Good Neighbor Day (with tours of historical homes), the Brandywine Hospital Strawberry Festival in late May (rides, food and attractions) and Brian's Run (walk/run, bike and canoe competition on the Brandywine Creek) are just a few. The Struble Trail, a 6 mile walking and hiking trail, is popular with area residents of all ages. One major reason that I like living in the Downingtown area is it's geographic location. Philadelphia, home of the 2008 World Champion Phillies, is about 45 minutes East while Lancaster County, with a large Amish population and great shopping outlets, is 45 minutes West. Within an easy days drive, you can be skiing in the Poconos, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland shore resorts are within 2 hours. You can be in major cities such as New York, Boston, Washington, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. So, whatever you like - big city or country, snow skiing or sunning on the beach, it is easily accessible from Downingtown! |
